PJ Harvey recently shared “The Community of Hope,” the latest track from her new album, The Hope Six Demolition Project. Now, the track has a video, directed by her frequent collaborator Seamus Murphy. In the intro, a narrator sceptically outlines the U.S.’s HOPE VI public housing project, leading into a montage of clips shot around Washington, DC. Towards the end of the video, a church group sing the refrain, “They’re gonna put a Wal-Mart here,” in front of the congregation. Watch it below.
The song recently attracted criticism from D.C. politicians. A campaign treasurer for former mayor Vince Gray said, “PJ Harvey is to music what Piers Morgan is to cable news.”
The album will be released on April 15 on Island.
