During his performance at SXSW’s Spotify House, Vince Staples took a moment during his set to criticize the streaming service, The Austin-American Statesman reports. “Shoutout to Spotify,” he said. “Thank you for giving me this check to make up for what you’ve done to me and all my musical friends.” Later, he told the crowd, “listen to your favorite album 1,000, 2,000 times so everybody can get an album sale.”
Last year, Joanna Newsom spoke out against Spotify with similar criticisms, calling it a “cynical and musician-hating system” and “the banana of the music industry.”
Jay Z recently removed the entire Blueprint series from the streaming service.
